About Me.
Hi, I’m Courtney! Welcome to my blog.
Why I’m here…
Planning, productivity, and focus can all be achieved through joy, not stress. And I’m determined to show others exactly that through this blog.
How I got here...
I’m not someone who was born this way. I didn’t come out of the womb organizing closets and drawers. In fact, it was quite the opposite. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid. Of course, that was in the 80s before they started drugging kids (thank God!). In fact, they didn’t call it ADHD back then. They called it “hyperactive.” Even though I was put in GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) classes, which were for kids who were above average intelligence, I always struggled to get my work done. I have a very clear memory of my teacher saying to me several times a day, “Courtney, stay on task.”
Somehow I managed to graduate high school and college (with honors), but I followed a non-traditional path to get there. (I was in my late 20s when I finally graduated). The day I graduated, I was 8 months pregnant, and that’s when things started to fall apart. College gave me an externally imposed structure, and I really thrived within that structure. Once the structure was gone, I almost didn’t know how to function.
Through lots of research, trial, and error, I started to find methods that worked.
I am now a wife, a mother of four children, have a full-time job, run this blog, I try to have a social life, and I have reached a place where it has all become manageable AND most importantly, enjoyable. I’ve learned how to create my own structure and find joy in the planning.
What you will find here . . .
The thing that has helped me more than anything is learning what actually works for others. That doesn’t mean it always works for me, but it shows me what’s realistic and what isn’t. On this blog, that’s what you are going to find… strategies and tactics that I have tried and have actually worked for me. It is my hope that this blog will help you find your own breakthroughs and make real progress in this busy and overstimulated world.
What I’m really like . . .
Hobbies, obsessions, truisms, and fun facts.
Life without coffee isn't worth living.
If it's not Gilmore Girls or Downton Abbey, I don't want to watch it.
If I had favorite hobby, it would be sitting in a quiet room or porch reading.
One of my favorite, instant de-stressers is getting out in nature, and I don't do it enough.
I own an adorable long-haired dachshund who is obsessed with me.
At the end of the day, I wouldn't have made it if it weren't for the grace of God.
